Sony’s First R-Rated Marvel Movie Will Feature Kraven the Hunter
Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays the lead role in Sony’s upcoming movie “Kraven the Hunter,” made a pre-recorded announcement at CinemaCon 2023 that it will be the studio’s first-ever R-rated Marvel film. This is a departure from the studio’s previous Marvel movies like “Spider-Man,” “Venom,” and “Morbius,” which were all rated PG-13.
During the event, Sony exclusively presented a two-minute teaser trailer for “Kraven the Hunter,” which unfortunately won’t be released online. The footage features a lot of gory kills as Kraven goes after poachers and mercenaries, in a similar vein to the levels of violent action seen in movies like “Logan,” “Rambo,” or “John Wick.”
The teaser also showed Russell Crowe as Sergei Kravinoff’s (Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character) Russian father, who speaks with an American accent. Additionally, the footage revealed that Alessandro Nivola is playing the Rhino, with a shot of his arm transforming into rhino skin. In a brief shot, we also see Sergei holding the classic fur costume that Kraven wore in the Marvel comics.
It remains to be seen whether “Kraven the Hunter” will tie in with Sony’s larger Spider-Man franchise, as “Morbius” did. Fans will have to wait and see how this plays out.
