Xbox Loss Maverick Games Gain

Leading Forza Horizon developers including Horizon 5’s creative director are Mike Brown are leaving Playground Games and Xbox to start a new game development studio – Maverick Games.

Mike Brown will lead the new studio and is joined by five former Playground employees which are Playground’s lead producer Tom Butcher, technical director Matt Craven, technical art director Gareth Harwood, audio director Fraser Stachan, and art director Ben Penrose.

The development team is at work on a premium open world game for consoles and PC and they have already secured significant seed funding.

For players, they are already at work with an exciting ultra-high quality title, and for developers, they are building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all – be a Maverick.

Avatar 2: The Way Of Water Creates A Stir In Box Office – The 7th Biggest Movie In History Worldwide

Post fourth weekend in theaters, The Way of Water continues to put up massive box office numbers. It is now the seventh biggest movie in the history of the world, the sequel has now earned $1.7 billion globally.

Writer-director James Cameron now has three of the top ten movies in history based on box office numbers. The 2009 Avatar remains the highest-grossing movie ever, with $2.922 billion, while his 1997 film Titanic earned $2.2 billion.

Thanks to this massive success at the box office, Cameron is moving ahead with his planned sequels, beginning with Avatar 3 in 2024.

Piracy of Movies, Music & Software of ‘Unfriendly’ Nations Is Now Legal in Belarus

Rightsholder permission will not be required for content to be used in Belarus because Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko has signed a new law that legalizes piracy of movies, music, TV shows and software owned by rightsholders from ‘unfriendly countries’. The law also allows goods protected by intellectual property law to be imported from any country without obtaining permission from rightsholders.

Adopted by the House of Representatives (lower house) on December 20, 2022, and the Council of the Republic (upper house) a day later, Lukashenko signed its provisions into law on January 3, 2023.

This law will come into force this week and remain in place until December 31, 2024.
