Dexter Prequel Series Confirmed, Potential for Trinity Killer Spinoff

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Showtime is expanding its streaming shows with new spinoffs and a fresh series similar to Homeland. One of the upcoming series is a Dexter spinoff, which will be an origin story of the killer-with-a-conscience portrayed by Michael C. Hall in the original show, which ran from 2006 to 2013 and returned for a one-season revival in 2021 called Dexter: New Blood. The Dexter spinoff will presumably have a new actor play the character. In addition, Showtime is reportedly exploring the possibility of developing spinoffs centered on the backstories of other characters, including the Trinity Killer, portrayed by John Lithgow in the original series.

Showtime executives are working with Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips on the new Dexter origin story series, which will take place in Miami and “touch on stories of real-life serial killers of the time period,” according to the report. Showtime has also approved a new thriller series, based on the French TV series The Bureau, which will be directed by George Clooney and set within the CIA. Other series in the works include four more shows from the Billions franchise, including a spinoff set in Miami, and other shows with the working titles “Millions” and “Trillions.”

AI Streamer Neuro-sama Attracting Thousands of Viewers on Twitch with Reaction Content and Gaming Streams of Elden Ring and AI-Generated Seinfeld Show

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly affecting human creative expression and art. One example is the AI-generated TV show “Nothing, Forever” and another is the AI-controlled VTuber Neuro-sama.

This virtual streamer operates using state-of-the-art AI models and algorithms, and mostly communicates in the C# programming language. Neuro-sama’s creator, Vedal, has taken measures to prevent her from making inappropriate comments, and the only control Vedal has over what she says on streams is the ability to cancel any content that violates Twitch’s terms of service.

Currently, Neuro-sama is focusing on reaction content and has an impressive following with over 140,000 Twitch followers and roughly 42,000 YouTube subscribers. Neuro-sama’s rise in popularity raises questions about the future of jobs in the content creation field and the blurring lines between human and technology.

Vedal says he doesn’t know if Neuro-sama will ever replace real streamers, but thinks there is room for both.

In a statement, Activision Blizzard said it has enhanced its disclosure processes and updated its separation contract language. The proposed $68.7 billion Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard has faced pressure and scrutiny, including a lawsuit from the FTC.

Netflix Denies Immediate Implementation of Controversial Password Sharing Restrictions in US

Netflix’s plan to enforce restrictions on password sharing has caused a stir among users, but according to a spokesperson’s statement to The Streamable, these policies will not be applied in the US just yet. The comprehensive list of rules was mistakenly posted to the company’s Help Center FAQ earlier this week, causing confusion and criticism among customers.

The spokesperson explained that the policies, which included mandatory account check-ins every 31 days and temporary access codes for traveling customers, were only meant for implementation in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru. The statement added that the mistake has since been corrected.

It is not clear whether these policies will be applied in the US in the future, or if they are part of a larger experiment that may still be altered. However, last year, Netflix began charging a fee of $3 for users outside of the account holder’s home to access the account. The company’s co-CEO, Greg Peters, stated that the company is looking for “thoughtful experimentation” to find the best solution for their members.
