Sources Suggest That Sega Is Nearing A Deal To Purchase Rovio, The Creator Of Angry Birds, For A Whopping $1 Billion

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, it is rumored that Sega is in the final stages of acquiring Rovio Entertainment, the developer of the highly popular mobile game Angry Birds, for around $1 billion. The deal is expected to be concluded early next week, subject to successful negotiations and mutual agreement.

Although neither Sega nor Rovio have issued an official statement regarding the acquisition, it was reported that Rovio had previously been in talks with Israeli mobile gaming company Playtika for an $800 million acquisition deal. However, those discussions ended last month.

In recent years, Sega has acquired several companies, including Relic Entertainment, Two Point Studios, and Atlus, the developer of Persona. The video game industry has experienced a wave of acquisitions lately, such as Microsoft’s merger with Activision Blizzard, as well as Sony’s merger with Bungie. The mobile gaming space is also expanding, with Activision Blizzard’s Candy Crush franchise providing a significant boost to Microsoft’s portfolio. Additionally, last year, Sony established a mobile gaming division to create games based on new and existing intellectual property, while Take-Two Interactive acquired mobile developer Zynga.

Angry Birds, released in 2009, is one of the most popular mobile games in history, and in March 2022, Rovio Classics: Angry Birds was released. This game includes the original Angry Birds game with all chapters, as well as all Easter eggs and extras that were available at the time of its release.

Kristen Stewart to Star in Road Trip Comedy ‘Sacramento’ Alongside Michael Angarano and Michael Cera

Kristen Stewart, known for her role in “Spencer,” along with Michael Angarano from “This Is Us,” Michael Cera from “Juno,” and Maya Erskine from “Pen15,” are set to star in the upcoming road-trip comedy film “Sacramento.” The film will be directed by Angarano, who co-wrote the script with Chris Smith, and is scheduled to start shooting this spring.

The movie’s storyline follows the energetic and free-spirited Rickey, played by Angarano, and his long-time friend Glenn, played by Cera, who has settled into domestic life. On an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento, their past comes into focus, and their future is questioned.

Other cast members include wrestler-turned-author and screenwriter AJ Mendez from “Blade Of The 47 Ronin,” Iman Karram from “Daft State,” and Rosalind Chao from “Mulan.” Mendez and Karam will play best friends and ex-professional fighters who help teach Rickey and Glenn about their own relationship.

We’re honored to be working with this wildly talented cast and crew led by Stephen at Bee-Hive who is not only a great partner, but a true collaborator. It’s already been quite a journey, but we’re finally ready to go make a movie.”

Angarano and Stewart previously starred together in the 2004 drama “Speak.” Angarano will next play Robert Serber in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and will also star in Kevin Costner’s Western “Horizon.” Stewart has recently finished production on the A24 thriller “Love Lies Bleeding,” while Cera currently stars opposite Amy Schumer in the Hulu series “Life & Beth” and will next be seen in Warner Bros’ “Barbie.”
