Pokémon Cards Completely Sold Out in Japan

The Pokémon Card Company has officially declared that their collectible cards are completely sold out in Japan due to a set of hard-to-find cards. On April 14, The Pokémon Company released a new expansion pack for the trading card game centered around Scarlet and Violet’s four Treasures of Ruin within the game’s Paldea region. The expansion pack, which includes the Clay Burst and Snow Hazard sets, contains some cool EX cards and has combined the Japanese Triple Beat set into one set known as Paldea Evolved. However, the sets are distinct from each other because of the cards available in each pack. For example, Clay Burst contains a Special Illustration Rare card of the Pokéfluencer Iono, which collectors in Japan are going wild for. The line for the sets’ midnight release in Tokyo’s Akihabara district was reported to be “insane.” The situation has become so out of hand that The Pokémon Company has issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience to customers and promising to bolster production systems to promote the reproduction and shipment of their products. The Snow Hazard pack contains a Special Illustration Rare of Grusha, making it unclear when things will return to normal for the Pokémon trading card game scene.

Actor Pedro Pascal, known for his work in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, and actor Matt Damon, who recently starred in the Nike drama Air, have joined the cast of Ethan Coen’s upcoming film project Drive-Away Dolls. The film is described as a “comedy caper” and also stars Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan. This is Ethan Coen’s first narrative film project without his brother Joel Coen. The film is a co-production between Focus Features and Working Title and also stars Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, and Bill Camp. Netflix to Expand Crackdown on Password Sharing, Unveils U.S. Rollout Schedule

Netflix has announced its plans to roll out a “broad” crackdown on password-sharing later this year in the United States and other territories. According to the company’s Q1 2023 shareholder report, Netflix will introduce paid sharing in Q2 2023, meaning that by the end of June, viewers will have to pay extra to share their Netflix account with other households. The service was first tested in four countries in July 2022, where customers were asked to pay a fee for using their account outside their home. Netflix is yet to reveal the cost of these additional homes in the United States.

As part of the password-sharing crackdown, Netflix has introduced a verification system in some countries. This system comes with a warning that states, “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.” Netflix will monitor the devices used to sign into accounts and their location.

The company is also upgrading its ad-supported Netflix tier, which was previously limited to 720p. Netflix’s Q1 2023 report revealed that it had added 1.8 million subscribers from January to March, and it plans to improve its ads experience with more streams and improved video quality to attract a broader range of consumers.

Bono and Gavin Friday in the process of developing a short film based on Peter and the Wolf

Max and Cartoon Network are collaborating with Irish musicians Bono and Gavin Friday to create a contemporary retelling of Sergei Prokofiev’s classic symphony, Peter and the Wolf. The short film is set to debut later this year and features music and narration by Friday, accompanied by artwork based on Bono’s original illustrations. The project was originally developed in 2003 to support the Irish Hospice Foundation, a charity supporting those facing dying, death, and bereavement.

The retelling explores themes of growing up, loss, courage, transformation, and our relationship with nature, using a combination of traditional hand-drawn 2D animation and a physical set-built world. The storyline follows Peter, a 12-year-old boy who, after losing a parent, is now under the care of his grandfather. When he hears stories of a wolf on the loose, he sets out to find the wolf and, along the way, encounters helpful creatures while facing hunters trying to capture the wolf.

The project is being led by musician and composer Friday, who narrates the reimagined classic tale with The Friday Seezer Ensemble performing the Prokofiev score. The score has been newly arranged by Maurice Seezer and Friday. The artwork seen throughout the film is based on original illustrations by Bono from his book of the same name.

In a joint statement, Friday and Bono expressed their hope that this retelling of Peter and the Wolf becomes a “balm for any child dealing with loss” while exposing them to the musical world of Prokofiev. As a fan of the original Peter and the Wolf recording, and of Bono, the author of this note is looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.

John Wick Director Expresses Interest in Collaborating with Charlize Theron, Robert Downey Jr, and Other A-List Actors

John Wick was initially a standalone movie, but the franchise has now grown into a multi-film and television series universe. John Wick Chapter 4 director, Chad Stahelski, recently expressed his desire to work with a few actors whom he admires. In an interview with The Direct, Stahelski revealed that while he wants to give John Wick a break, he has a list of actors he’d love to work with.

Stahelski mentioned that Cillian Murphy, the lead actor from Peaky Blinders, would be a great fit for one of his films. He also expressed his admiration for Colin Farrell, Charlize Theron, Jurnee Smollett, Michelle Yeoh, Robert Downey Jr, Peter Dinklage, and Sean Bean, saying that he would “die for a chance” to work with any of them.

Although it’s unlikely that John Wick will feature prominently in any upcoming films, the franchise is set to expand with the upcoming TV series, The Continental, which will explore the early history of the hotel featured in the films. The Continental is scheduled to premiere on Peacock on September 22, 2023. Additionally, the franchise’s next film, Ballerina, will be released on June 7, 2024. The movie will focus on the character Rooney, played by Ana de Armas, and will take place between the events of John Wick Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.
