Electronic Arts has announced the closure of its popular mobile game, Apex Legends Mobile, in 90 days. The game had a strong start after its launch, earning $5 million in its first week and winning awards at the App Store and Google Play’s Best of 2022. However, according to the publisher, the game’s content pipeline failed to meet the quality, quantity, and cadence standards.
Starting today, all real-money in-app purchases will be removed, and the game will be taken down from app stores. Players can still spend their in-game currency until the game is shut down on May 1. No refunds will be given, and all in-game content will no longer be available.
The developer confirmed that this closure has no impact on the PC and console version of Apex Legends, which remains strong. The future of mobile-exclusive characters like Fade and Rhapsody remains unknown, and it’s unclear if Season 4 will launch.
EA also announced that the development of Battlefield Mobile has been canceled. The developer expressed excitement about mobile gaming as a platform and stated that “Respawn and the Apex Legends team look forward to new opportunities to serve players there in the future.”
