Actress Julie Bowen Lands Lead Role in Upcoming Thriller Series “Hysteria,” Which Follows a Terrifying Tale of Satanic Panic
Peacock is set to release Hysteria!, a coming-of-age thriller exploring the history of mass hysteria in America during the Satanic Panic. The drama series, written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane, has cast Julie Bowen, known for her role in Modern Family, as the lead. Bowen will play Linda Campbell, the mother of a teenage outcast who experiences a series of supernatural events, causing her to question everything she knows about her son and the growing threat of Satanism in their small Midwestern town.
The show’s plot revolves around a high school heavy metal band of outcasts who take advantage of the town’s sudden interest in the occult during the late 1980s Satanic Panic, building a reputation as a Satanic metal band. However, their plan goes awry when a beloved varsity quarterback goes missing, and a series of bizarre murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” lead back to them, sparking a leather-studded witch hunt.
Hysteria! has attracted the talents of Jordan Vogt-Roberts, known for his work on Kong: Skull Island, to direct the first episode. Are you excited to see how this thrilling drama unfolds?
