Layoffs Strike The Witcher Spinoff Studio Amid Game’s Restructuring
The development team at The Molasses Flood has experienced layoffs following the decision to restart development on the highly anticipated Witcher multiplayer spinoff game. CD Projekt Red, the parent company, confirmed the restructuring and stated that 21 team members in the US and eight in Poland, who were working on the project, have been affected.
CD Projekt Red clarified that the changes were necessary as the project underwent a “new framework.” This restructuring aims to ensure that the studio aligns with its vision and focuses on projects that meet its standards. The decision to proceed with the game came after concerns arose when CD Projekt Red filed to write off assets, leading to speculations of a project cancellation.
Although Project Sirius has faced challenges throughout its development, it is not the only Witcher game in the works. CD Projekt Red unveiled two other Witcher games, including Project Polaris, which is set to be the next installment in The Witcher series. Additionally, the company has plans to release two more games, forming a new trilogy.
Furthermore, CD Projekt Red announced a collaboration with Fool’s Theory to remake the first Witcher game using Unreal Engine 5, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to revitalizing the beloved franchise.
Despite the setbacks and changes, fans of The Witcher series can look forward to the upcoming projects and the continued expansion of the captivating Witcher universe.
