While the successor remains unknown, Tom Hanks, renowned Hollywood star, openly shares his preference for the coveted role, favoring the immensely talented Idris Elba.
In a conversation with the BBC, Hanks expressed his admiration for Elba, stating, “Understand this – James Bond has a license to kill. I would issue that license to Idris Elba just based on the work that I’ve seen him do.” Hanks’ endorsement adds fuel to the long-standing fan-driven campaign advocating for Elba’s portrayal of the British superspy.
Interestingly, Hanks’ endorsement of Elba arose during a discussion on the topic of modifying literary works to address potentially offensive content. The James Bond series frequently enters these conversations due to alterations made to Ian Fleming’s novels to address concerns surrounding sexism and other sensitive topics.
Expressing his views on the matter, Hanks questioned the necessity of editing old books to suit modern sensibilities, emphasizing personal agency in deciding what may or may not cause offense. “Let’s have faith in our own sensibilities as opposed to having somebody decide what we may or may not be offended by,” he asserted. “I would be against reading any book from any era that says ‘abridged due to modern sensitivities’.”
However, despite Hanks’ endorsement and widespread fan support, Elba himself has already ruled himself out of contention for the role, stating earlier this year, “I’m not going to be that guy.”

She acknowledged the time-consuming nature of the commitment, saying, “The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off. And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment.
