MFINDA, N LITE’s Upcoming Afro-Anime Film, Reveals More Staff and Sneak Peek at Annecy
Multimedia company N LITE announced that it will present a sneak peek of MFINDA “AFRIME” at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, along with revealing more details about the film. The film’s producer is Masao Maruyama, the planner of Summer Wars and producer of Tokyo Godfathers and In This Corner of the World. Meanwhile, the director is Gisaburō Sugii, who has directed many popular anime, such as Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie and Night on the Galactic Railroad. American animation producer and distributor GKIDS is a coproduction partner of the film.
MFINDA is an afro-anime, which is N LITE’s hand-drawn 2D animation project that aims to bring black and indigenous stories in partnership with global creators. The story revolves around a young girl named Odi, who is transported to the past, where she teams up with another girl named Nasambi. Together, they venture into the MFINDA to fight evil spirits and reclaim the Nkisi, hoping to return Odi to her own time. Donald H. Hewitt and MFINDA creator Patience Lekien are working on the screenplay, while N LITE’s Christiano Malik Terry and Shigeru Igari are producing the film.
N LITE Japan is producing MFINDA, and the company plans to produce AFRIME films and television series. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the new feature film by Kenji Kamiyama, will also debut at Annecy, and the Chainsaw Man anime will be competing in the TV Films category.
Annecy International Animation Film Festival is the world’s oldest and largest animation film festival, established in 1960. It is held annually in the French town of Annecy and will take place from June 11-17 this year.
