The Idol”: HBO releases trailer for Lily-Rose Depp’s upcoming series about a megalomaniac pop star
HBO has recently released an exciting trailer for their upcoming music industry drama series, The Idol. The show stars Lily-Rose Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, portraying the rise of a megalomaniac pop star. The trailer starts with a question, inquiring when was the last time the music industry witnessed a truly “f**king-nasty” pop girl, accompanied by Britney Spears’ hit song “Gimme More.”
Co-created by Sam Levinson, the creator of the popular show Euphoria, Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim, The Idol takes place in Los Angeles, where Jocelyn, played by Rose Depp, is a fame-hungry young woman aspiring to conquer the entertainment industry. She encounters Tedros, played by The Weeknd, a charismatic, sex-obsessed cult leader, and her career takes off.
Aside from the lead stars, the cast also includes Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennot, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria.
Despite the hype surrounding the series, there have been reports of trouble on set, with sources stating that the production had “gone wildly, disgustingly off the rails” after a change in directors. However, these claims have been denied by members of the cast.
The Idol is set to premiere on HBO Max on Sunday, June 4th. If you’re a fan of gritty dramas set against the backdrop of the music industry, this may be the show for you!
