Nicolas Cage’s Dracula film, Renfield, is set to get its own video game adaptation, titled Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood. The game, which is available for purchase on Steam Early Access for $4.49 / €4.99 / £4.49, draws inspiration from the events of the Renfield film and features single-player gameplay with familiar-looking vampire enemies. Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood is being developed by Mega Cat Studios, a team known for their expertise in creating retro-style games that are filled with humor. Players can choose from a variety of characters, each with their own unique stats and abilities, and take on hoards of enemies across different levels. In addition, Dracula will issue “hilarious fetch quest demands” that mimic the story of the film. James Deighan, founder of Mega Cat Studios, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to work on the Renfield game with Skybound and Universal Games and Digital Platforms. He also hinted at the possibility of additional content being released after the game’s initial launch. Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood is drawing comparisons to indie smash hit Vampire Survivors, which launched in December 2021 and quickly gained popularity due to its chaotic gameplay and character selection mechanics. Developer Poncle announced plans to support the game with post-launch content following its viral success, and even months later, it remained a top game on Steam’s most-played list. However, Poncle revealed earlier this year that they were forced to rush a mobile version of Vampire Survivors through development due to the number of clones appearing on the market. The decision put a lot of stress on the development team, who were not initially supposed to work on a mobile version of the game. Overall, Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood offers a new way for fans of the Renfield film and vampire-based gameplay to experience the world of the movie, while drawing inspiration from the success of similar games like Vampire Survivors.
